M-DCPS School Board

School Board Members

The School Board of Miami-Dade County is comprised of nine members elected by the people. They serve four-year terms and are elected from individual single member districts on a staggered basis. Members annually elect their chair and vice-chair. The board moved from seven members to nine members, a result of a court order intended to ensure fair representation amongst Miami-Dade County's ethnic groups.

The School Board of Miami-Dade County sets district policy and appoints a superintendent, who in turn selects administrators to head the system's administrative divisions and carry out the Board's policy. The Board Member offices are located on the seventh floor of the School Board Administration Building. The Board Members may be reached by phone at (305) 995-1334 or by fax at (305) 995-1572.
