MIAMI- Miami- Dade County School Board member Dr. Robert B. Ingram (District 1) joined WMBM Radio Station to kick off "Read to Lead," an initiative to encourage children to read at least 10 books before the end of the school year. Dr. Ingram also proclaimed March as District 1 Reading Month and challenged parents to turn off their televisions for at least one hour each week to read with their children.

"I remember reading to my two daughters and I read to my granddaughters. Reading allows me to travel the globe from my living room. I believe that reading can change a child's view of their future so I am pledging to read to as many students as I can within the schools in District 1 before the end of this school year," said Dr. Ingram. "Reading is a fundamental skill necessary to educational success among children. I encourage all parents, school personnel and community leaders to get involved with this effort."

"Read to Lead" is a District 1 initiative to improve reading and language skills among young children and improve their potential for success. The program is part of Dr. Ingram's effort to bring attention to the importance of early childhood education, and appropriate parenting to ensure the intellectual development of children of every age.
